Alcázar is a type of a castle or palace built in Spain and Portugal during the Muslim rule. The name evokes an image of a magnificent medieval fort with high ornamental towers glistening in the sunlight. Lars Laj designed its own version of Alcazar in a form of a multifunctional piece of play equipment.
Alcazar consists of a wooden platform, an inner bridge, wooden and rope ladders, and a climbing wall. The most characteristic element of this construction is a slender, black-and-white tower with a decorative window frame. The tower can be accessed and “conquered” from at least three directions. Children can play sword fighting on the red bridge, climb the walls and look through the tower window. This piece of playground equipment is undeniably impressive and fits perfectly in thematic playgrounds. It stimulates children’s imagination and by having many ladders to climb, also helps kids develop their strength, stamina and motor skills.
